Tera (short for The Exiled Realm of Arborea) is a completely free to play fantasy MMORPG set in a land created from the bodies of two mighty Titans, from which races bloomed, empires rose and mighty kingdoms flourished. It was released in Korea January 25th, 2011 and in North American and Europe in May 2012. TERA transitioned to free-to-play model in early 2013.

What is TERA?

TERA is an MMORPG which invites players into a graphically stunning world of fantasy. With its innovative true action combat system, TERA redefines the genre’s boundaries. Players must aim along their crosshairs to cast spells and execute attacks, demanding timing and precision, as well as strategic planning.

Created in the minds of gods, its fate in the hands of heroes – the world of TERA offers boundless gaming fun with a wide variety of challenges for PvE and PvP. Seven playable races and thirteen classes are available to choose from: play as a raging Berserker, a vengeful Reaper or a benevolent Priest, and experience breathtaking battles!

Are you new to TERA? Here are the most important terms you should know:

• BAMs, Big Ass Monsters = huge creatures with dangerous special attacks
• Buff = positive status effects improving your character’s stats, e.g. faster movement speed from the Mystic’s aura
• Debuff = negative status effects reducing your character’s stats, e.g. reduced movement speed from a boss skill
• BG, Battleground = PvP maps where you play against other players in special missions, see also PvP
• CU, Civil Unrest = guild combat system in TERA
• DQ, Dungeon Queue, Dungeon Finder = a tool which makes it easier and faster to find a group in TERA
• Class = you can choose between a variety of character classes in TERA, e.g. Ninjas and Berserkers
• Race = your character can belong to a variety of different races in TERA, e.g. High Elves, Elins or Humans
• DD, Damage Dealer = classes whose main purpose is to inflict high damage on enemies
• Healer = classes whose main purpose is to heal damage taken, generally for a whole group
• Tank = classes whose main purpose is to draw enemy attacks and soak damage
• Guild Missions = you can complete special missions with your guild in TERA
• Guild Skills = special skills become available to your guild in reward for good teamplay
• True Action Combat = unique combat system where attacks must be aimed using the crosshair
• Unreal Engine = TERA uses the Unreal Engine 3
• iFrame, invincibility frame = special game mechanics which make your character invulnerable for a short period of time
• IoD, Island of Dawn = high-level zone mainly for solo missions
• Low skill = often used in combination with easy dungeons
• NM, Normal Mode = many dungeons come in two different difficulty levels, normal being the easier of the two
• HM, Hard Mode = many dungeons come in two different difficulty levels, hard being the more difficult of the two

• What is TERA?

  TERA stands for The Exiled Realm of Arborea and is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). TERA is developed to bring you thrills never experienced before in traditional MMOs with its action-filled gameplay and riveting visuals. You become part of the realm of Arborea, created by the Ancient Gods. You defend your race in a fantasy world where your creators, descendents of the Ancient Gods, have warred upon each other centuries ago.

• How does TERA differ from other MMORPGs?

  TERA will set new standards in the industry with its next-generation graphics, ground-breaking gameplay, and its unique community system. TERA is visually stunning and the quality is of those never seen in previous MMO games. Check out our images and screenshots! You will experience a new gameplay style with TERA. Unlike traditional MMOs, there is no 'point and click' system, giving you more control of the character and providing more riveting action play. • How many characters and races in TERA and what are the main characters and classes?

  TERA has 6 characters, 8 classes and the development team is working towards having all possible combinations available. Numerous customization options are available to create a truly unique character and class. You can specify a character from six choices: Aman, Castanics, Baraka, High Elves, Popori and Humans. You will also be able to choose a character class from 8 choices: Lancer, Warrior, Berserker, Sorcerer, Priest, Elementalist, Slayer and Archer.

• When will TERA be released in North America? Will TERA be launched globally?

  The release date is scheduled for sometime in the year 2010. Currently TERA is planned to be available in multiple languages and localized to specific regions. Please continue to visit our site for further updates.

• When will the beta test begin?

  We are currently undergoing Focus Group Testing. These members will be helping us focus on western feedback and ironing out many of the details before any beta test. Beta schedules will be announced in the future. Be sure to sign up for our monthly newsletter for the latest updates and news!

• What will be the payment model for TERA?

  Just like other triple A titles, TERA, a next generation MMO, will be a subscription based model and will feature box products for sale in North America. Further details will be disclosed at a later time.

• What are the system requirements, internet connection needed for TERA?

  We are still in the process of optimizing and fine-tuning the game. Our development team is working diligently to reach the highest graphic and action quality compatible to the majority of existing systems. Specific requirements will be updated shortly.

• Is the official trailer a cinematic creation?

  The official trailer 1 available on our website is not a cinematic trailer. In fact, it is an actual gameplay footage. It consists of different camera angles capturing our developers playing the game and it has been edited into a trailer format. We wanted to visually capture the amazing quality of TERA as accurately as possible.

• ...will be a PvP or PvE game?

  There are MMOs that are stronger in PvP and others that are stronger in PvE. The TERA dev team understands that both are equally important and that is why TERA has been created envisioning both. The dev team is working hard to marry the benefits of the two in this next generation MMO.

• ...will support solo/small group play?

  The dev team is trying to make TERA cater to different types of players' needs. In short, you can level up solo or with a small group. However, it will be more exciting if you play TERA with the whole mass.

• ...will be based on quests or grinds?

  Leveling up in TERA will be guided by quests. However, the dev team is envisioning the leveling up experience in TERA to be much more engaging than in previous generations of MMOs. How? Because of the immersive, real-time action gameplay in TERA, which will draw in your key senses and reflexes to play the game.

• ...will have instances or an open world?

  The team is focusing on providing a whole new MMORPG experience and to satisfy every one of you. The team fully understands the requirements of a triple A MMORPG title and therefore, YES, TERA will provide a persistent world (seamless). To avoid any misunderstandings, TERA will also offer instances for those who prefer instanced dungeons. Hopefully, this hybrid world (instances + seamless) will adhere to all the needs of a variety of players.
